Delete your account
You can delete your NoBookEnds (NBE) account from inside the app. If you've already removed the app, or can't sign in, email us and we'll do it by hand. Either way, it's permanent.
In the app
- Open NoBookEnds and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap the menu icon (three lines) at the top right. A sheet called Settings opens.
- Tap Delete account, the red row near the bottom.
- Read what will be removed and what will be kept, then tap Continue.
- If you have a book exchange in progress, the app asks you to finish or cancel it before you can go on.
- Tick "I understand this is permanent and all my data will be deleted", then tap Delete my account permanently.
You'll see "Account deleted" and be signed out on every device. Deletion happens straight away; it isn't queued.
Without the app
Email agent.gray1911@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. Put "Delete my account" in the subject line, and your username if you remember it. If you have an exchange in progress, say so, and we'll sort that first.
That inbox reaches the founder directly, not a support desk. We'll check it's you, delete the account, and reply to confirm, within 7 days of your email.
What's removed
Straight away, and for good:
- your email address, password and Apple sign-in link
- the IP address and device details recorded with your sign-ins
- your profile: username, name, bio, photo, location, preferred genres and notification token
- books on your shelves that have never changed hands on NoBookEnds, along with other readers' hearts and comments on them
- your hearts, comments, follows, blocks, saved and wishlisted books
- your direct messages and notifications
- the record that you joined through another reader's invite, and your answer to the newsletter box when you joined
What's kept, and why
Kept, with your name and account id replaced by "A reader":
- exchange records for books you gave or received where the handover completed. Your chat messages in that exchange are removed.
- notes you left on other readers' books, feedback you sent us, and gift records; the words stay
- books on your shelves that have changed hands on NoBookEnds, whether you gave or received them: title, author and any note you wrote about them, with no owner and no location
These are part of the book's history, and the other reader's, so they stay for as long as NoBookEnds runs.
What isn't removed yet
Your analytics history at PostHog and your crash and error reports at Sentry. Both carry your account id. We don't yet have an automated way to ask either company to delete the events tied to your account, so they remain under each provider's own retention: around 12 months at PostHog, and a period at Sentry we haven't verified yet. If erasing those matters to you, email agent.gray1911@gmail.com. We'll delete them by hand at both companies and reply to confirm when it's done.
The newsletter
Deleting your account also takes your email address off our newsletter. You won't need to unsubscribe separately.
Coming back
If you want to come back later, join again with the same email address. It will be a new account.
